REGrow: Student-led Food-Waste Composting Initiative

22 October, 2025

REGrow is our student-led food-waste composting initiative at Taylor’s Residence. Residents sort food scraps into dedicated REGrow bins in the utility rooms and common kitchens. Our team then collects, weighs, tracks, and sends the waste for composting or bioconversion – turning everyday scraps into useful fertilizer instead of methane in landfills.

REGrow Week 1 Impact Update

Dear residents, you made this happen – and we’re just getting started!
Let’s keep composting, learning and giving back. Check the ReGrow bins in your units or common kitchen, follow the simple sorting guide and join us on this journey. Together, we ReGrow.

What we’ve done so far
18/09/2025 — ReGrow Kick-Off: Launch event of ReGrow in collaboration with Secret Recipe & Entamol. The purpose of raising awareness on the importance of composting and how to segregate our waste.
27/09/2025 — Orientation Booths: Awareness on why food waste matters and how to sort it right.
04/10/2025 — Waste War Campaign: Residents had set up a booth on our ReGrow project + our project lead Nethii spoke as a forum panelist on the importance of reducing food waste & food composting.

ReGrow in Action: Ambassadors collecting black soldier fly larvae to process food waste, iv. Orientation Booth: ReGrow awareness setup at the September Intake.

What’s next
1. Educational field trip (Secret Recipe)
We’ll visit the partner site to see how kitchen waste is transformed end-to-end from collection → treatment → safe, mature compost/fertilizer. Residents will learn about contamination control, curing, and how the final product helps soil health and water retention.

2. Sustainability workshops @ Gamuda Park
Hands-on sessions with Gamuda Parks on urban gardening, soil health, and home composting basics so our residents can apply ReGrow habits beyond the residence.

3. Giving back
We’ll donate our fertilizer to the Orang Asli community at Kg. Serendah to support local farming and food security.
