Moving into student accommodation is exciting, but packing for it can feel overwhelming, especially if it’s your first time living away from home.
This guide is for residents who are preparing to move into a residence or hostel but aren’t sure of what to bring (or don’t want to overpack).
For any residents moving either to U Residence or Ruemz, some essentials are already provided so you can focus on bringing what matters. By the end of this checklist, you’ll know exactly what to pack to settle comfortably and stress-free.
1. Bedroom Essentials (What’s Provided + What to Bring)
When you move in, you’ll already receive a complimentary bedding set, so there’s no need to pack bulky items.

- Bed sheet
- Mattress protector
- Laundry bag
What you may still want to bring:
- Extra pillow (for added comfort)
- Additional blanket or throw

- Shampoo, conditioner, body wash
- Toothbrush and toothpaste

You’ll spend a lot of time studying, so make sure your setup is ready.

- Extension plugs or power strip
- Desk lamp (if needed)
- Notebook and stationery

- Reusable containers
- Mug, plates, and basic cutlery
- Instant meals (noodles, oats, snacks)
- Water bottle

Small personal touches can make your new space feel like home.

- Small décor (fairy lights, small plants)
- Favorite snacks from home
